Pichler recommends that individuals exhibiting autogynephilic addiction (e.g., transsexualism) undergo anticonvulsant therapy to alleviate the symptoms of the behavioral addiction. Abbott manufacturers an anticonvulsant under the trade name Epival (Divalproex Sodium). The medication is largely used to treat epilepsy and bi-polar disorder. However, the medication is now also used to alleviate the symptoms of behavioral addictions as well as substance abuse.
